This is a great product. So much money for a pencil? Why how? Because it’s wonderfully made by hand in Germany, plated in platinum.The pencil comes with a perfectly fitted point protecting cover that can be posted like a fountain pen. The pencil comes sharpened, the end cap like most of the metal parts is plated platinum. You can unscrew the end cap to reveal a replaceable eraser. The cap looks works much like a fountain pen end cap. It has a hinged clip, removable and replaceable sharpener. Lift the end of the cap and it snaps to reveal the sharpener. Twist the very top of that sharpener to replace it.As you can see all parts are replaceable making this a product that will last a lifetime. All items are well made and will last for ages.I've had the plastic version for years, but wanted something that felt less cheap. For me, the real perk is how well it sharpens/ covers your sharpened pencils. The included pencils cost too much for an underwhelming pencil. I really love the sharpener, pencils don't make a difference to me, they are okay, but not noticeably better than something like Mitsubishi. Also, the spring loaded pen clip has a little peg that sides out from time to time, which shouldn't be the case for such an expensive tool. I do love it, but it's not for everyone, and could use some more love in the design.The finish on this is spectacular and it's form and function perfect.After getting over my fear of possibly losing this great item, I've decided to take it just about everywhere I go. I have a good sized fountain pen collection and I've gotten pretty good about taking care of my writing tools. (Knock on wood). I must say the cap was a little larger and heaver than I expected, and compared to the cap, the actual pencil is extremely light. So much so in fact I always prefer to write with the cap posted. The graphite is also hard enough to where I don't feel like I'm blazing through the length of my pencil at lightning speed. I think this product was well worth the price. The refills on the other hand.....Travels like a pen, sharpens like you are at your desk, and it is all class and qualityWonderful luxury item for pen lovers, crossword addicts, people who like to use their pencils all the way down. It is back-heavy posted, but I like that.So expensive I will never admit it to anyone but i love to use it - weight is perfect, lead is smooth and lasts a long time between sharpening, and while I know the sharpener on the end is a little "gimmicky", its so convenient.A beautiful piece of engineering. The cardboard box cover was disappointingly carelessly put on, presumably after being opened and damaged. I am very happy with the purchase though.
